Adam Horder in International King of Sport Final
(5 November 2002)
For the last few weeks Channel 5 has screening the International King
of Sport heats. Crosstrainer Adam Horder won his heat and is through
to the final, which is being shown on Sunday, 10th November at 7.00
pm. What sort of sports? Fastest drop to the ground from a standing
position, running in a circle, and a headlong body dive into a long-jump
sandpit, to name a few. Basically, it is a sporting antithesis, but
that doesn't make it any easier. Did he win? You'll have to tune in
and see.
Sponsor Will Whitmore to raise money for Archie (18 October 2002)
Archie was born prematurely and the complications that followed left
him with cerebral palsy and diplegia. It is not known whether he will
be able to walk or if he does how well. Archie will have a number of
other disabilities to cope with, but the more treatment he gets at the
specialist Bobath Centre, the better chances in life he will have. This
costs money, of course, and that's where the challenge comes in. Will
Whitmore of dbmax.co.uk (runners-up at Superteams) has set himself a
'stretch' target (to put it mildly):
1) To lose enough weight in 5 weeks to compete at BIRC 2002 in the
lightweight category (less than 75kg). To do this he needs to lose around
10.5 kg (1 stone 9lbs).
2) To place top 5 in the age 30-34 LWT category at BIRC 2002.
Will is going to try for 6:25, but with 10.5 Kg weight loss you know
how hard and painful that is going to be.
Sponsor Will by the pound or kilo for weight loss and (or) for every
second he gets under 7 minutes. Go on, email (xtrain@dbmax.co.uk)
now and pledge some money.

Clarification of Superteams disciplines (16 September
2002)
We had a couple of queries re Superteams event, so we emailed for clarification.
Details below. Jez Strong, Superteams account director replied:
Vacate and revisit?
Vacate and revisit - does this mean I can do, say, 30 sit ups, another
team member do 30 and then I revisit to do my last 20? I.e., no limit
to the number of change-overs between team members as long as minimum
reps per person are achieved at the end?
Response from Jez:
You have to achieve your minimum in your first visit to any discapline.
After that you may re-visit as often as you like to make up the balance.
Sit-ups?
Sit ups. Are these done on an incline bench? If so, what angle of incline?
The write-up - other team members can hold feet - suggests they are
done on a mat or a box?
Response from Jez:
This was supposed to be on an incline bench (approx 40 degrees) with
feet hooks ....... however, it Life Fitness have not come up with the
benches, so we it will be sit ups on a mat with a team mate holding
your feet. We will confirm this in your entry confirmation letters.
Weight carry?
Weight carry - one pair of dumbells per team member? E.g., one person
does 20, second person does 40, third person does 60 (as opposed to
all three members doing all three pairs).
Response from Jez:
Absolutely right! However you don't necessarily have to carry 2
dumbells of the same weight - as long as you all carry 2. Carry can
also be done in 2 journeys if necessary.
That's about it, so get those entries sent in asap.
Cheers.......Jez

October 2002 events at
Thruxton (24 August 2002)
Hants Fire and Tri are holding a Rowathlon on Sunday 20 October - 3k
row, 21k bike, 3.5k run - at Thruxton race track in Hants (near Andover).
The following Sunday, 27th, the Mass Attack duathlon takes place - 5k
run, 30k bike, 5k run. We did both events last year and they are great
fun, although the weather is unpredictable (well, not that unpredictable
- it poured down for the rowathlon and was bitterly cold, but that's
only a problem while you are waiting to start).

2002)
Message from the organizer, Dave Coard: "I'm very pleased to hear
that we were rated along the lines of Ultrafit and Tropicana. A lot
of organising but very worthwhile when you get feedback like that.
I will be forwarding a cheque to The Luton & Dunstable Hospital
Cancer Unit Appeal for £700.00 (proceeds from the event once expenses
were paid) which made it even more worthwhile." Thanks, Dave -
we're looking forward to the next one! Photos have been added to the
