About crosstraining.org.uk
(last updated 21 January 2002)
Having been involved with cross-training for a few years, we thought
it would be a good idea to have our own website so that fellow competitors
and future competitors would know when events were held and what disciplines
were involved. Also, they would have the chance to browse through results,
pick up on training ideas and have the opportunity to have input to
the crosstraining community byt promoting their own event and writing
reports. Ade Clift of Future Fitness together with the help of Richard
Vidgen, a friend and an IT lecturer at Bath University, started the
crosstraining community site in 1998.
Core members of the community include:
Adrian Clift
Ade is a former National swimming champion and multiple National record
holder. He graduated from Premier Fitness Educational Academy in 1992
and since then set up his own Personal Training business called Future
Fitness. He has trained some of the successful Future Fitness team members
including Abi Handley (Tropicana Champion 1997). Ade has competed regularly
in cross-training events sine 1995 and now enjoys finishing triathlons
and occasional daft events like Toughguy.
Andy Coleman
Andy is a fitness trainer at the Fitness Mill, Stroud and has competed
in cross-training events over the past few years and now competes with
Future Fitness in triathlons and Toughguy.
Hywel Davies
Hywel's list of sporting achievements is too long to fit on the page.
Suffice it to say that he won Ultrafit, Tropicana, and X-Zone in 2001.
Hywel also kindly writes occasional reports for us on cross-training
events and adventure races.
Phil McConnell
 |
Phil McConnell is the longest standing Personal
client of Future Fitness (with the most patience, obviously).
Ade has trained Phil sine 1993 and Phil now competes and places
at top level in events like Tropicana, One on One comps and Last
man standing in Toughguy. He has also competed in the Half Ironman
Llanberris and enjoys all types of cross-training and triathlon
events.

Fay McConnell
Phil's wife Fay McConnell is currently semi-retired after giving birth
to a son in December 2001. Fay enjoyed successfully competing in cross-training
events as well as completing the Winter Toughguy 2001.
Ian Medlock
Ian runs his own IT business and is another of Ade's personal clients
at Future Fitness. He has enjoyed competing in cross-training competitions
and is a National (grapple and strike) Jujitsu competitor.
Michelle Parsons
Michelle used to battle it out with Abi Handley in the One on One comps
during the mid 1990's and has now gone on to establish herself as one
of the top three cross-trainers in the Country. Michelle placed top
three at both Ultra-fit and X-Zone, was Champion of Tropicana Champs
2000 and 2001, and topped off 2001 by winning the British rowing Championships.
Phil Parsons
Michelle's husband Phil also has competed in cross-training events
over the years and now enjoys triathlons and success as a lightweight
rower.
Lee Rankin
Lee was persuaded to take up cross training by Ade and Abi to complement
the body-building he was doing at the time. With obvious genetic potential
and a determination in competition, Lee has now, like Michelle, established
himself as a top level cross-trainer in events like X-Zone, Ultra-fit
and the
Tropicana Champs (Champion 2001). He has also competed in half Ironman
Llanberris and various other triathlons, duathlons and Toughguy.
Di Rankin
Lee's wife Diane also competes regularly in cross-training events and
Toughguy, in between looking after their 2-year-old son Bradley.
Jim Rankin
Making it a family affair, Lee's brother Jimmy also started competing
in 2001, where he finished in the top 50 at Summer Toughguy. Jim also
competed at Llanberris and various cross-training events throughout
the year.
Gill Slator
Gill is a nurse and competes regularly in cross training events and
Tough Guy.
Jo Smart
Jo is a qualified Kae Bo and aerobics teacher. She started crosstraining
during 2001 and competed in the X-Zone Championships as her first event.
Richard Vidgen
Richard is a lecturer at Bath University and administers the crosstraining
site. Rich is a long time personal client of Future Fitness and was
originally trained for his knee rehabilitation. He is now an established
Masters competitor and has competed in most of the cross-training events
from X-Zone to the Tropicana Champs (richard@crosstraining.org.uk).
